As funding permits, we are always looking for motivated researchers to join our interdisciplinary and collaborative research team at one of the top research universities in plat and agricultural sciences.

UC Davis Tour

Prospective Postdoctoral Scholars

We are looking for highly motivated scientists with excellent plant biology, biochemistry, and/or functional omics background to investigate the biosynthesis, diversity, and function of specialized metabolites in a range of plant systems. Successful candidates typically have a PhD and expertise in the following areas:

  • Plant and/or protein biochemistry (incl. E. coli, yeast or tobacco expression systems).
  • Metabolomics
  • Functional Genomics
  • Protein structural Biology
  • Plant Physiology experience with molecular biology and cloning techniques.
  • Ability and desire to train junior scientists.
  • Experience in modern plant biology methodologies in maize, switchgrass, tobacco, and other model and non-model species.

If you are interested, please send any inquiries via email directly to Dr. Philipp Zerbe (pzerbe@ucdavis.edu). Please include a CV and a brief cover letter that highlights your research experience, interests and how it may align with our program.

Prospective Graduate Students

We are looking for graduate students who are highly motivated to take part in our research focused on investigating and engineering plant specialized (particularly terpenoid) metabolism. You may join the lab (after a successful rotation) only via a UC Davis Graduate Program, preferably via the Plant Biology (PBGG), the  Biochemistry, Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology (BMCDB), or the Chemistry (CHEM) Graduate Programs. Please contact Dr. Zerbe directly for more information about lab rotations. Dr. Zerbe is also a faculty trainer for several campus training and professional development programs:

Prospective Undergraduate Students

Our team always welcomes motivated and inquisitive undergraduate students who are enthusiastic about acquiring comprehensive research skills and gaining hands-on experience with cutting-edge biochemical and omics technologies. If you are interested in joining us, please contact Dr. Zerbe for more information about current availabilities. In your email, please provide an updated CV and a brief overview of your interest in joining our group.
